Misconceptions of Social Media (From Web 2.0 Expo)
Posted in Blog, Social Media by Marcelo with No Comments
Direct from the Web 2.0 Expo in San Francisco. Sitting in a session about social media marketing.
Misconceptions of Social Media:
1) Viral is a strategy – produce something GOOD thing and it will get passed
2) I can control it – you cannot “control” it but you can engage in the conversation. Better to know what your customers are saying where you can see it vs. having them talk about it where you can’t.
3) I can buy friends – you can…but these are “empty” numbers.
4) Bought friends will listen to me – see above.
5) I can just buy an ad – demographics suck. psychographics rule in SM
6) I’ll put all my eggs in the SM basket – don’t give up the offline things that already work. SM gives you more channels.
